'94 Girls Reach Semis of Ozark Classic in Arkansas
The WSA 94 girls, coached by Dustyn and Terry Hall, reached the semifinals of the Ozark Classic Tournament hosted by the Fayetville Comets soccer club on October 11th.  The girls opened the tournament with a convincing 3-0 win over Bentonville, then defeated the hosts, Fayetville Comets, by a score of 3-2. In their final first round match the girls would beat Bryant Blue Thunder 4-3 in a tough and exciting match that saw play go end to end.  Bryant Blue Thunder would go on to capture the "wild card" spot and would eventually win the tournament.  WSA outshot their semifinal opponent, Little Rock FC, but could not find the back of the net and wound up going out in the penalty kick shootout stage.  It was the first traveling tournament for the girls, and not only did they play well, they had a great time.  Congratulations ladies on another terrific tournament!    [01/31/05]

WSA '94 Girls Labor Day Champions
The WSA 94 girls team got off to a great start for their first season as a team, by going undefeated and almost unscored on to win the BASC Labor Day Invitational tournament.  The team rolled through first round competition amassing 20 goals and giving up none in their three first round matches to qualify them for the finals.
WSA 94 then defeated a tough Extreme team in the finals by a score of 5-2.  The first year team is coached by Dustyn and Terry Hall.  Congratulations girls on a great performance! [01/18/05]

WSA '89 Girls Labor Day Finalist
The WSA 89 girls picked up where they left off last season by claiming another trophy in their first competition of the Fall.  The team captured the BASC Labor Day runner-up trophy after going unbeaten through first round competition.  Struggling with the hotter temps and possibly wishing they were a bit more fit by the finals, the team utilized organization and some timely goals to reach the championship match.  WSA 89 dropped the match to an improved Tulsa Thunder squad, in tough and hard fought final.  WSA 89 is coached by Roger Bush and Jamie Johnson.  Well done ladies! [01/18/05]

WSA 93 Boys Semifinalist Labor Day
The WSA 93 boys squad utilized a great effort in their final match of the first round of the BASC Labor Day Invitational to push themselves into the semifinals.  Needing a win and 3 goals to confirm their spot in the semifinals, the team got just that.  The team battled hard in the semis, but in the end was searching for the legs to make the extra runs.  Despite exiting in the semis it was a great tournament run for the boys.  Well done!   [01/18/05]

WSA 90 Places in Older "A" Division

The WSA 90 boys wrapped up a great season in early December by competing for a league title in the u16 "A" division.  The WSA squad was the only '90 team represented in the '89 boys league.  Going into their final match of the season the team still had hopes of a league title, but fell short to Extreme 89.  Besides grabbing the 3rd place league trophy, the team also played well in the CASA tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they threatened to make the finals, but dropped a couple of close games.  The WSA 90 boys are coached by Scott Peavler.  Congratulations and well-done boys! [01/07/05]

WSA 93 Girls Place in A Division

The WSA 93 Girls will get to add another trophy to their shelf this off-season after learning they had finished in 3rd place in the u12 girls "A" division.  The team finished 2nd place last Spring in the u12 girls "B" division, as an u11 team.  The team has had a couple of impressive showings at tournaments this year, and is still looking for it's first tournament trophy. WSA 93 girls are coached by Billy Wallace and Ashley Cahwee.  [01/07/05]

WSA 88 Boys Runner-Up In OPL

The WSA 88 boys solidified at worst a runner-up trophy in the u17 boys Oklahoma Premiere League.  The team went into the Christmas holiday with only two losses to their name, and enough points to be mathematically clear of all contenders for second place.  With some help the team could still get the first place trophy, but they would need a win over Kicksmart in their league finale, and a loss by Kicksmart somewhere along the way.  Congratulations to the WSA 88 boys on a great season!  The 88 boys are coached by Josh McElroy. [01/07/05]

(please send us your season wrap ups so we can let others know how you are doing)

Tony Quartuccio (WSA 85 boys) in his freshman year set a single season record for the ORAL ROBERTS Golden Eagles for shutouts in goal this season, earning him 2nd team Mid-Con All-Conference honors, and Mid-Con Defensive Player of the Year Runner-Up honors. Quartuccio was ranked 5th in the nation as a goalkeeper at the end of the regular season among NCAA-DI keepers, and helped the Golden Eagles win the Conference Championship regular season title, and reach the Mid-Con Tournament Championship game, one game from earning an NCAA birth.

Brittany Kitchens (WSA 86 girls) contributed minutes at WILLIAM JEWELL in her freshman year. Kitchens received substantial playing time on her team which made the NAIA national tournament, and then advanced to the National Championship match before losing in the finals. Congratulations Brittany and William Jewel!!

WSA Soccer Club and ESPN Partners
The WSA Soccer Club is pleased to be teaming up with ESPN in a club-wide fundraising effort for the Spring of 2005.  ESPN the magazine and WSA have partnered to help raise funds for the club, expose the soccer community to ESPN The Magazine, and promote and advocate youth sports participation in America.  Players will be selling magazine subscriptions at $20 per subscription, beginning Monday, February 7th.  The fundraiser will involve two phases.  Phase I, the “team competition” runs from February 7th until March 16.  Phase II, the continuation of individual sales incentives will run until April 15th.   Players have been asked to sell 2 subscriptions each, and the club goal is 500 subscriptions sold during the Spring.  ESPN donates 60% of the profits to the soccer club.  The money raised will subsidize the WSA Scholarship program, facilities improvements, training expenses, and other costs of the club.  There are plenty of incentives and prizes for top individual and team sellers, including NIKE apparel, ESPN prizes, and authentic “replica” jerseys.  For more information click on the ESPN Logo on the front page under the navigation bar.  [02/07/05]

WSA 89 Girls Reach Semis in St. Louis

The WSA 89 girls returned to the MC United College Showcase in 2004 after going winless in 2003, and expecting a much better performance.  The improved squad almost surprised itself by coming close to a championship match appearance.  After defeating Avalon FC by a score of 1-0, the team then drew with Heartland S.C. 2-2.  Goals by Caroline Pruett, Sarah Dalinsky, and Cassie Wellendorf helped move the team into contention for a finals spot.  But a tough 1-0 defeat to Iron Kids, last year's tournament finalist, eliminated their chances from advancing to the finals.  WSA was in contention the entire match with Iron Kids, needing a tie to win their group.  Instead WSA met Thoroughbreds S.C. in the 3rd place consolation match. In that match WSA grabbed the early goal, leading 1-0, but could not hold on against Thoroughbreds S.C. and settled for a fourth place finish in the College Showcase event.  Most importantly the team celebrated "Mauno's" 16th birthday in style, and were chaufered by their assistant coach to all lunches and dinners.  WSA 89 are coached by Roger Bush and Jamie Johnson.     [02/01/05]
