WSA PLAYERS PARTICIPATE IN RANGERS FC TRAINING ACADEMY IN SCOTLAND

On Sunday, March 29th, WSA players, Curtis Miller (WSA 99 Blue) and Josue' Madrigal (WSA 00 Red) both departed Tulsa, Oklahoma for Glasgow, Scotland, to attend the Rangers FC North American Academy training program!  The two were selected to attend the Academy of one of Europe's most decorated football clubs this past summer when Rangers FC Scouts showed up on WSA training grounds to run an identification camp as part of WSA's partnership with Rangers FC.

Approximately 25 players from the United States were selected to participate in the Rangers Academy program based on evaluations performed last summer by Rangers scouts who toured the U.S. identifying players.  Curtis and Josue' were selected from the Identification Camp held last June at WSA grounds during July.   Players were selected based on the Ranger's scouts' evaluations of the player as "at a level that would require further scrutiny" to decide if the players might be an interest to the Rangers professional academy.  Rangers FC, who were recently relegated from the Scottish Premiership due to financial issues, historically have been the premiere club in Scotland, and have the distinction of having earned more European trophies than any club in Europe (including the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich).   Rangers are quickly rising again, currently at the top of their league table and set for promotion back into the Premiership next year.

Curtis and Josue' toured and played at the Ibrox, the famous home stadium of Rangers, as well as trained at the famous training grounds of Rangers FC at Murray Park.  While in Scotland the boys also got to take in an Scottish international friendly at Hampden Park, where Scotland played Gibraltar.  During the week the Rangers FC staff led training sessions on possession, combinations, sports science, finishing, defending, and counter-attacking topics.  All sessions were led by professional Rangers scouts and coaches.

In the culmination of the week-long sessions the North American selections played against the Scottish youth academy and community teams.  Curtis made WSA proud as he was named "Man of the Match" after his hat trick tally drew the North American squad on level terms.  The boys arrived back in the States on Sunday, April 5th, likely with a world of stories and experiences to share.  Congratulations to both Curtis and Josue' on being selected, and we are proud of both of you for representing The Side with such class and distinction.
