WSA Sends Two Teams to State Championship Matches this Weekend 94 Girls Lose in State Semis

The WSA Soccer Club is proud to have two teams representing the club this weekend in the final round of Oklahoma state championship matches, WSA 89 girls and WSA 88 boys.  Since two of the four matches for "older" teams (u18 and u19 boys and girls) will have WSA ties the club is hoping that many of our loyal fans will show up to support these senior-laden teams, which for many kids represents their final game for WSA.

Both WSA teams are heavy underdogs, but the kids are excited about the opportunity to represent their club on one of youth soccer's most visible stages. Please come out and support your teams this weekend. Schedules will be posted on www.oksoccer.com.

The WSA 94 girls state tournament run finally came to an end Saturday after losing to NOKC United in the semifinals.  NOKC would go on to defeat TSC 94 White in the championship match the next day.  Congratulations WSA 94 girls on a great state tournament performance!

Please check back later this week for an article on all WSA teams' state tournament stories.  The club had a great weekend in the opening round nearly sneaking several upsets against defending state champions.  [05/29/07]

Cassie Wellendorf and Elaine Davis, anchor the backline for Cascia Hall in the State Championship game for 4A High School soccer -- the two have combined as a formidable force the WSA backline on many occassions.

Congrats To Cascia's WSA Connection: State HS Champs!
The West Side Alliance S.C. would like to extend congratulations to the Cascia Hall Lady Commandos Soccer team for claiming the 4A State Championship over Metro Christian on Saturday, May 12th in the match played at the University of Tulsa Soccer Compex.
Many current and previous members of the WSA 89 girls team, most who are in their senior year, were involved in the match, including the producer of the gamewinnning goal, Caroline Prueitt.  Other WSA 89 connections included starting sweeper, Cassie Wellendorf, starting center midfielder, Sarah Dalinsky, starting marking back, Elaine Davis, injured  players, Camilla Howard, and injured Alex Maun.

Caroline Prueitt is first met by WSA teammate Cassie Wellendorf after her gamewinning goal in the State Championship game.

Victory is sweet!  The Cascia Hall Lady Commandos celebrate moments after the full-time whistle. Caroline Prueitt and Elaine Davis, former WSA teammates, are seen embracing.
Congratulations ladies!  We are all proud of your accomplishment!

SSSC Hosts League Cup

Champions!  It's always sweet to hoist the champion's trophy!
While the F.A. Cup final is still weeks away, the young players of the Sand Springs Soccer Club had a chance to compete in their own version of the F.A. Cup, the SSSC League Cup, this past weekend, May 12th at the Rivercity Parks Sports Complex.
SSSC hosted a one day tournament event for all SSSC recreational teams u6 thru u10.  The success of the first year even seemed evident by the smiles and good times had by all.  Congratulations to all teams and participants.  For a list of results please visit the Sand Springs Soccer Club website.

Girls Function was G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S!

The first annual WSA "all-girls function" could only be described as "glamorous".  The event was held at Osage Christian Hills Church on Saturday, May 5th.  There was a time slot at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and teams attended one or the other pending their game schedule for that day.  A grand total of 75 girls showed up of the total 130 girls in the program.

The event was coordinated by newly hired WSA "Events Planner", Mindi Collins with volunteers from GUTS church and several of our great WSA soccer moms.  The day included a necklace exchange, a cupcake bar, a message on "being female and being an athlete" delivered by Mindi Collins, and a musical slideshow from WSA head coach, Roger Bush, dedicated to the girls and their example of excellence "on and off the field".

Each girl who attended received a limited edition "GLAMOROUS.. On and Off the Field" tshirt which proved to be a great hit.  In fact ladies if you did not attend these are on sale now for $10, but they are going fast!  The slideshow ended with the popular song by Fergie, "Glamorous" and Mindi presented the tshirts to the girls as their "party gift".

The WSA club offered the girls function as a gesture of our appreciation of all of the ladies who represent our sport and our community with such grace, elegance, and class.

Special thanks to All-American Fitness in Sand Springs and Shoemaker Photography for sponsoring the event!

WSA 90 boys 2007 State President's Cup Champions!
WSA and Nationals Club Take Most President's Cup Championships

West Side Alliance S.C. and Tulsa Nationals captured 3 State President's Cup championships the weekend of April 29-30th at the Indian Springs Soccer Complex in Broken Arrow, marking the most by any club.

The WSA 90 boys defeated Cosmos for the third time this year, in their championship match.  But the Cosmos required a terrific performance from the WSA boys as both teams shone in the final.  The match would require a late goal off the head of Ryan Newschbomb from a Keagan Cornelius service in the 73rd minute.  The goal electrified the WSA supporters as it would stand to send WSA 90 boys to the Regional event in Tamba Bay, Florida.

The WSA 89/88 boys would cruise through their championship match winning 3-0 over Norman Celtic 88.  WSA won two first round games to go unbeaten in the tournament.  The 88 boys also won the State President's Cup in 2005.

The WSA 94 girls won their third consecutive State President's Cup championship becoming the only Oklahoma team to have garnered three consecutive titles in the event which premiered in 2005.  The 94 girls cruised to the finals and ran into a tough NEO Extreme FC team.  WSA 94 would get goals from Alysson Hall and Samantha Forgione onward to the victory stand and a trip to regionals in Tampa Bay.

The WSA 89 girls entered the championship match against TSC 89 girls in sore shape with an injury depleted roster forcing the team to play with ten men through stages of the match.  But things looked to have opened nicely for WSA after an apparent goal by Brittney Hooper in the opening minutes.  The goal was called back though and TSC would take command of a 1-0 halftime advantage scoring twice more in the 2nd half to win 3-0.  The runner-up trophy marks WSA 89's second State President's Cup runners-up award, having finished in the same spot in 2005.

The WSA 94 boys lost to South Lakes Cosmos 3-2 in the semifinal stage on Saturday of the finals weekend after a hotly contested battle.  Cosmos would go on to win the tournament.  The result for WSA 94 marked a dramatic improvement from a year ago when the team entered the President's Cup as the bottom seed.

Congratulations to all WSA players for an excellent showing at this year's Oklahoma State President's Cup.  And good luck to the 90 boys and 94 girls at the regional event in Tampa Bay, Florida, which begins June 8th!

WSA Teams Advance in State President's Cup
West Side Alliance S.C. made a name for itself at the Mazzio's Pizza Eatery State President's Cup this past weekend sending five teams through to the semifinal stages.  Several other teams found themselves on the brink of advancement as well.
The 89 boys, 89 girls, 90 boys, 94 boys, and 94 girls will all have dates in semifinal competition next weekend as the tournament continues.
In addition several teams were in serious contention to advance.  The WSA 93 girls found themselves in position to win their group with only 3 minutes remaining against Norman Fury before a late goal deflated their hopes.  The 93 girls had upset ESC in an earlier match, and after ESC defeated Norman, WSA was just in need of a draw against Norman to win their group and advance to the semis.  The WSA 96 boys Red team also found themselves in need of just a draw in their final match against Thunder to advance, but dropped the match in heartbreaking fashion 2-1.  The WSA 92 girls team saw two opportunities sneak away.  The 92 girls needed a win against Extreme 91 but after leading 1-0 most of the match conceded a goal on a free kick in the final moments to settle for the draw, and then needed a draw against Hurricane 91 but settled for a 3-1 loss.  Either result would have sent the team on.  The WSA 95 girls, WSA 96 girls Blue, WSA 93 boys, and WSA 96 boys Blue, also all had bright spots of play during the weekend.

Congrats to all teams and best wishes to all teams next weekend in the semis and finals.  Check the website on Friday for schedules of WSA teams in the semifinals and finals and come out and support your home club!   [05/02/07]

WSA Teams Impress in Gold Division of Thunder Cup
Two WSA teams participated in this year's annual Thunder Cup, and both squads advanced out of their groups after some very tough games against notable competition.
The WSA 94 girls, coached by Dustyn and Terry Hall, continued their run of impressive tournament results by defeating, in a mild upset, the Norman Fury Red 94 girls team who is currently at the top of the Oklahoma Premiere League.  WSA would face a tough Hurricane 94 girls team in the final and after leading much of the match would drop the game by a final score of 2-1.
The WSA 92 boys, coached by Ryan Bush, also continued to impress against quality competition as the team found itself out of it's group by defeating Topeka Select 3-1, and KCFC Alliance 3-0, before dropping a tough match to Thunder 92 Black, who is nationally ranked, by a score of 2-1.  WSA led the Thunder match until the very end.  WSA would then face Premiere League West winners, ESC 92, in the semifinals, and would lose 1-0 in another hard fought match.  Thunder 92 Black would defeat ESC 92 2-0 in the finals to earn the championship of the Gold division.
Congratulations to both WSA teams for impressive results against high caliber competition and for once again representing the West Side Alliance S.C. with such class.  Well done!  [05/01/07]
