Step By Step Process For College Search

ATTENTION COLLEGE COACHES!

Searching for our college prospect player profiles? Please email our Director of Coaching, Roger Bush, at RogerWSA@aol.com for a list of prospects and an evaluation or letter of recommendation for each of our graduating seniors and/or junior class players. You can also visit our "teams" sections of this website for individual player profiles (available after Jan 1, 2010).  Our player profile page is temporarily under construction. If you would like to be alerted of it’s completion please email our staff and we will contact you when profiles are available for viewing.  Thank you. 

 


COMPLETE GUIDE FOR THE COLLEGE SEARCH FOR WSA PLAYERS

I. Contact schools with a letter of interest including the following:

  1. Cover Letter (see examples provided)

  3. A letter of recommendation from your club coach, DOC, or high school coach. 

  4. ACT/SAT scores (www.4Tests.com - Your Free Online Practice Exam Site!)

II. Follow up letters with an email or phone correspondence within 5-7 days to make sure the school has received your letter and profile.

III. Provide your showcase schedule to the coach.

IV. Make sure ODP, club, or HS coach contacts your school’s coach. 

V. Keep a file folder of all the schools you’ve contacted, their responses, the dates contacts were made, etc….

VI. Research the school’s you are interested in – Be Ambitious – Be Realistic!! Be Proactive!!

V. National Letter of Intent:  Early Signing – Approx Feb. 1st    Latest Signing – August 1st

  • Signing a national letter of intent means you embark on an agreement with all NLI schools that you are no longer eligible for recruiting from other NLI schools.  It is also accompanied by the school’s financial commitment to you, which is guaranteed for one year (and you get a pic).  

  • National Letter of Intent is operated through the SEC (Southeast Conference).  You can  direct NLI questions to the SEC Office (205) 458 3013 or www.national-letter.org.

  • There are penalties for signing and then choosing another institution.

VI. Eligibility NCAA:  C/O ’08 will be required to complete 16 core courses… These standards are set by the NCAA and checked by the NCAA Clearinghouse.  GPA, SAT and/or ACT requirements are also a part of eligibility.  You can go to www.ncaa.org to download the requirements. 

  • If you do not meet the requirements a waiver may be filed by an NCAA institution on your behalf and the NCAA academic committee will consider “objectively” your complete academic background. VII. NCAA Clearinghouse: YOU MUST BE CLEARED BY THE CLEARINGHOUSE!  You can either pick up a Clearinghouse form at your counseling office, or you can register online at

www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.

BEGIN THE CLEARINGHOUSE PROCESS ASAP DURING YOUR SENIOR YEAR!

VIIIEligibility NAIA:  A prospective applicant must have at least two of the following:

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA in 13 core courses

  • SAT of 860/ ACT 18

  • Be in the top 50% of graduating class

IX. Eligibility NCAA D-III: Determined by the institution.  Typically D-III schools have higher standards.  NO ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS!  BUT… ask me about the magical money coaches find…..
